advent literally means: the coming of CHRIST into the world.
and this is the season we remember him, the God-man, humbly joining humanity in the form of a baby & prepare our hearts for his coming, his kingdom and reign.
how awesome it is to live in a period of time where we can enjoy the fulfillment of so many of the prophecies – and mysteries – of the first advent and yet eagerly anticipate and celebrate the fact that he already came and he’s coming again!
Come LORD Jesus!
last year we did a homemade advent study with sterling. this year though, it’s so much better. thanks in part to pinterest and all because of this lady, who so generously created and shared her easy to print and do homemade (& oh so much more fun) version with us!
the sprouts and i are having a lot of fun with this year’s advent… and even more exciting than that, the truths we’re learning are sticking!
what 4 year old boy doesn’t love quoting philippians 2:10-11 when he gets to scream the last part – “Jesus Christ is Lord” – at the top of his lungs… as many times as he wants to quote it!?!
in addition to this super simple (notice the upcycled intimate wear box holding our advent readings?) preparing of our hearts i am taking full advantage of the SheReadsTruth advent study.
the sprouts’ advent study is primarily about Jesus’ character, his miracles… who he is to us. the SheReadsTruth version has us looking back in history, recalling our desperate need for him, searching prophecies, wrestling with the grace we’ve received and challenging us to share the joy of his coming with others.
with 12 days of CHRISTmas remaining it’s not too late to celebrate… or participate in either one of these studies!
Isaiah 11:10 “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him & his place of rest will be glorious.”
and again i say, Come LORD Jesus!
