welcome 2014 {5 R’s for the new year}

today i hung our 2014 calendar. a visual reminder of the future awaiting me. undoubtedly, the year is sure to hold many wonderful discoveries as well as trying & difficult days, each currently displayed as an unimposing, empty box. even with the anticipation of so many future possibilities i decided a quote from mater was in order: “ain’t no need to watch where i’m goin’; just need to know where i’ve been!”

ok, it’s not the most theologically sound statement, but the reality is, we all need to take moments each day to reflect, repent & rejoice in what God has already done in our lives! we need to know where we’ve been… we need to remember.

remember what we’ve been saved from. so we can remember what we’re saved for.

remember how He’s provided & protected. so we can remember his faithfulness in times of disappointment, isolation & pain.

remember that we were bought with a price, free to us. so we can remember our value.

sometimes we need more perspective, not just vision, so that we live more fully.

remembering where we’ve been & how he’s sustained us gives us the stamina & joy to move confidently into the new year… or the next empty box on the page.

remember – reflect – repent – rejoice

now we’re ready to look ahead!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,  fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” ~Hebrews 12:1-2

remember – reflect – repent – rejoice

& run!
